State the difference between a shell and subshell present in an atom

A subshell is a set of orbitals within a given shell, and it is designated by a letter (s, p, d, f). Each subshell can hold a specific number of electrons. The s subshell has one orbital, the p subshell has three orbitals, the d subshell has five orbitals, and the f subshell has seven orbitals.

In summary, a shell is a broader energy level, while a subshell is a subset of that level, consisting of specific orbitals with distinct shapes and orientations.
